Not all talk radio is just talk. In some cases it takes a lot of personal sacrifice and old-fashioned "doing" to get to the talking. Ask Dan Zimmerle and Phil Castillo who are the hosts of
One Nation Under God Radio —
a live, call-in talk show on
Super Talk 99.7 WTN in Nashville, TN.
After contemplating the current state of the world and the
price of real freedom, Zimmerle decided it was time to do what he could do. He put his money where his mouth might
make a difference . . . on talk radio, to help people understand the importance of looking at life "from a Biblical perspective" to gain true happiness and to
maintain the freedom we so cherish in America.
"Impressed of the Holy Spirit, I knew that I could no longer stay silent, even if the costs were high," Zimmerle writes.
"I called WLAC with the idea and they decided not to have a controversial program on their Sunday agenda. Then I called WWTN. Long story short, they sold us the time at a rate of $800 per week.
I contacted Phil, a brother I respect and trust with my life,
one I've spent much time with belly aching about the ills of our leadership. He, too, agreed it was time to do more than belly ache, so the show was born."
With no radio experience, the pair knew there were many who could do the job better, but they also knew that they could not ignore what they felt God was encouraging them to do.
Zimmerle quotes scripture as evidence that even those who seem to have little can accomplish a lot if they have faith.
"'It's not by might, not by power, but by My Spirit, saith the LORD.' As inept as we are, He isn't. He is our foundation, our life, our hope, our voice, and hopefully, our supply.
If not, we will know we gave it a shot, something Phil and I both know is what we are called to do."
Zimmerle (the "Z" Man, as he's called on radio) and Castillo do not have big-name sponsors to foot the cost of producing their radio show. They are thankful for public contributions, but at the moment they rely
on themselves by maintaining an $800 a week continuous contribution.
"We're average men in every way," Zimmerle states. "The reason we are doing this is not because we feel that conservative
voices are lacking (there are many and they are eloquent), but we feel that the arm of the flesh is the arm of the flesh, no matter which side of the aisle it presides.
Phil and I think the hope of this land is in the Arm of the LORD, nothing short of His mighty hand will suffice. Thus, "ONE NATION UNDER GOD" was born.
One Nation Under God airs Sunday mornings from 7a.m. to 9a.m. The show is available live online at
Super Talk 99.7 WTN. Fans can also
subscribe to the show's podcasts on iTunes.
Considering the cost of proucing the show compared to the costs others have paid to keep America free, Zimmerle feels there is no comparison.
"We are giving money, something that doesn't cost nearly so much as many are sacrificing today on foreign soil and far
less than our founders sacrificed in giving us the nation we call America. Freedom costs; always has, always will."
